How to Properly Care for Cast Iron

We love to camp.  And cast iron cookware is a nearly indestructible addition to any camper’s arsenal of food preparation tools – THOUGH IT IS VERY HEAVY.

Above is a link showing the correct way to clean and cure the iron so it last long and avoids rusting.

Lodge Ware is a popular brand of Cast Iron, though I’ve seen other lines much cheaper at Sports Authority and other stores.  You can also salvage good pieces from thrift stores, antique shops, and yard & estate sales.

Know your prices for different sized cast iron pieces before you buy; sometimes they ask just as much for an old piece as for new from the store.  Make sure it’s not rusted through the bottom, and use and clean it properly, and it will serve you well for years to come!

HAPPY CAMPING!
